CALL OF DUTY INFINITE WARFARE NOT CONNECTED TO GHOST?

Infinity Ward also explains how leaving last-gen consoles behind benefits the game.

During a PlayStation livestream event today, Infinity Ward developers shared some new information about Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. First, narrative director Taylor Kurosaki confirmed that Infinite Warfare is not at all connected to Infinity Ward's last game, 2013's Call of Duty: Ghosts.

He went on to describe Infinite Warfare as a new "sub-franchise" for Call of Duty, suggesting it could get sequels in the future. Other Call of Duty sub-brands include the Modern Warfare and Black Ops franchises.

Also during the livestream, Kurosaki confirmed that Infinite Warfare, which is set partially in space, will not take players to anywhere outside of our solar system. There will be missions on other planets, while it was also confirmed today that one of these is set on Titan, which is one of Saturn's moons.

Some other interesting tidbits from the stream can be seen below.

*Players will return to a mothership, the Retribution, between missions
*There is no co-op for the campaign, but there will be for Zombies
*Because Infinite Warfare is being made exclusively for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, it allows the development team to push the hardware "a lot further" than if they also had to support last-generation systems
*The story was inspired by movies like Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down
*Among other things, Infinity Ward made use of a new lighting engine, while the game also has new AI types, as well as a fresh system for dogfighting and zero-G combat.
*There will be energy-based weapons, including a "seeker grenade." This is basically a spider bot that seeks out and kills enemies for you.
*Design director Jacob Minkoff recently told GameSpot about what kinds of new opportunities a space setting allows. He also confirmed that the game is inspired by war stories, not sci-fi.

Infinite Warfare launches on November 4 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
